PROJECT DETAILS

User Experience Design as part of Google UX Certification

PROJECT DURATION

November 2022 - December 2022
BACKGROUND EMPATHIZE DEFINE IDEATE & DESIGN USER TEST & REVIEW FINAL DESIGN KEY LEARNINGS

BACKGROUND

This design showcases an inventory management app created for Google's Professional UX Design Certification program. I meticulously followed each stage of the UX design process outlined in the course. Additionally, I've included my initial handwritten notes to provide insight into my design journey.

The 5 stages of product design.

1. EMPATHIZE

USER RESEARCH METHOD

I decided to conduct User Interview with 2 sellers and buyers who would be using the product. This is to gain deeper understanding on what the potential users are expecting out of the app.

INTERVIEW GOALS

  • To understand the challenges faced by the seller to gather more orders and to track and distribute them in time.
  • To understand the challenges faced by the buyer to give orders and to track them.

TARGET PARTICIPANT CATEGORIES

  • People who sell Aluminium/Steel utensils
  • Distributors of household goods
  • Manufacturers of Aluminium/Steel utensils
  • Retail customers
  • Small shop owners who sell Aluminium/Steel utensils

USER PERSONAS

Based on the user interviews, two personas were identified. This is summarized in the following two illustrations.

user persona 1 user persona 2

USER STORIES

Persona 1:

As a showroom Manager and a seller, I want to have a delivery service at my store, so that customers do not have to come wait in line for long hours

Persona 2:

As a small business owner, I would like to take my business online, so that more people have access to my products.

2. DEFINE

PROBLEM STATEMENTS

  • Sumalatha is a Manager at an aluminium utensil shop who needs to finish all her accounting and delivery of all the orders quickly because this takes a lot of time and effort and is affecting the sales.
  • Tenson is a small business owner who needs to take his business online because it can boost his sales

VALUE PROPOSITION

  • You can share the product portfolio instantly
  • Users can add things to cart and place orders at the comfort of their homes
  • Users do not have to visit the store or wait for delivery.

GOAL STATEMENT

Our app will let users keep track of the inventory and pricing of various goods. Our users will be small businesses in distribution/wholesail/retail space. Our app will sync the pricing and inventory data from the source itself. We will measure the effectiveness by observing five different businesses using our app for 5 days. We will also observe how they work without our app for five days.

COMPETITIVE AUDIT

I conducted competitive audit with three other products addressing similar issues. The detailed results can be accessed from the below options

KEY LEARNINGS

  • My initial foray into UX case studies provided a wealth of learning opportunities, particularly in research methodologies.
  • The Google UX course offered an extensive overview of essential tools, such as Figma, which I became proficient in.
  • Achieving the ideal design is an ongoing journey, yet with meticulous planning and strategic approaches, the process can be significantly streamlined.
